Inventive: Concerned Founder Develops Innovative Sensors for Fall Detection to Safeguard Loved Ones
Falls are prevalent among older individuals living semi-independently, with the CDC citing them as the primary cause of injury for those aged 65 and above. Approximately 10% of these falls are severe and necessitate medical intervention. Shockingly, many individuals who experience falls do not receive the necessary treatment.
In response to his grandmother and aunt’s struggles with Alzheimer’s disease and falls, George Netscher established SafelyYou, a tech company focusing on enhancing care for seniors. Utilizing a blend of cameras and AI sensors, SafelyYou identifies potential falls and promptly alerts on-call staff. A remote clinical team reviews each fall event, providing valuable insights to help mitigate future risks in senior living communities. Netscher emphasizes SafelyYou’s efficacy in minimizing false alarms compared to other fall detection products on the market.
Despite facing challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, SafelyYou persevered and now supports close to 1,000 senior living communities. To fuel its expansion, SafelyYou secured a $43 million Series C funding round led by Touring Capital. This capital injection, pushing SafelyYou’s total funding past $100 million, will primarily bolster the growth of the company’s San Francisco-based team.
